New Balance Comprehensive Health Education Program

With funding from the New Balance Foundation, Boston Connects will adopt a nationally recognized, evidence based health education curriculum to implement in each of the elementary schools with whom we work. In its pilot year, we will hire health coordinators who are certified in health education by the state of Massachusetts to deliver the curriculum. This curriculum will address several domains within the comprehensive health education content areas identified by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

In addition to a classroom curriculum, the Boston Connects comprehensive health education program will be reflected in school-wide activities and programs that will involve parents. Recognizing the significant contributions of agencies to the health education effort in our community, our program will also draw on the various community agency specialists in health education.

Thanks to the generosity of the New Balance Foundation and the support of the Boston Public Schools, Boston College, and the YMCA of Greater Boston; Boston Connects can work to ensure that students and their families will receive critical teaching and learning about how to become and stay healthy — physically, emotionally, and socially.
