The United States Supreme Court's decision in Lawrence v. Texas, prohibiting states
from criminalizing intimate sexual contact between adults of the same-sex was
both long overdue, and seems nearly forgotten. While same-sex marriage and
the military ban on open homosexuals from serving in the military, are at the
forefront of the equal rights movement, we should not forget the long battle
against discriminatory sodomy laws, which resulted in the reversal of the
infamous Bowers v. Hardwick decision,
and set a new precedent for equality. |
