2006 :: 1L Q&A on Outlining, Exams, Interviews, Jobs, and anything
else
 |
January is the time when 1L's
start to worry: Exams, Jobs, Interviews...everything is hanging
in the balance. But fear not, JLSA's annual Q&A session
on Outlining, Exams, Interviews, Jobs, etc. is just what you
need. Experienced 2L's and 3L's talked about their experiences
and answered some great questions. The Pizza was also nice. |
» December 2005 :: Chanukah
 |
Chanukah fell during the holiday
break, but this didn't keep the dedicated JLSA Board from distributing
some Chanukah Geld into student mailboxes. After all, everyone
needs a little energy while studying for exams. Hopefully everyone
enjoyed the Geld, played some Dreidle and did well in Exams. |
» November 2005 :: The Social Dynamics of Crafting the New Israeli
Constitution

The changes affecting Israel are a huge topic and we were
honored by a visit from Eliezer Yaari, Director General in
Israel of the New Israel Fund (NIF). Mr. Yaari talked about
the issues surrounding the Israeli Constitution, its history,
and the current effects of the decisions made many years ago.
His fascinating talk sparked a lively debate between students,
Professors, and Mr. Yaari.
Born in Jerusalem in 1949. Mr. Yaari has a BA in History
and Philosophy from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and
a Master's in Public Administration from the J.F.K. School
of Government at Harvard. NIF is a capacity building organization
in the fields of civil and human rights, promoting the equality
of Arab citizens in Israel, religious pluralism, women's rights,
environmental justice, closing social and economic gaps, and
government accountability.
We also want to thank the American Constitution Society at
BCLS for co-sponsoring the event with us.

» October 2005 :: Sukkot
 |
JLSA built a Sukkah in the
Kenny-Cottle Courtyard. Students and Professors came out to
sit in the Sukkah, talk, eat lunch, do homework, or whetever
else they like to do. We did have some strong winds left over
from hurricanes, but the Sukkah survived and is awaiting another
year. |
» October 2005:: 1L Representatives Elections and Falaffel Lunch
 |
Congratulations to Joshua Alexander, David
Bartholomew, Michelle Callner, and Jonathan Shapira on being
elected 1L Representatives. Over 50 people turned out at the
elections and besides voting for 1L's everyone also enjoined
Falaffel from Rami's in Brookline, the best Falaffel this side
of the Atlantic. |
» September 2005 :: Welcome BBQ
 |
The tradition is alive and well. In the
first week of classes, JLSA 2L's, 3L's, and our distinguished
Professors got together to welcome the Class of 2008 over some
delicious kosher Burger's and Hot Dog's. The weather played
nice and we had a great time. |

» April 2005 :: Justice at Dachau
 |
In recognition
of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the World War II
concentration camps, JLSA welcomeed Joshua M. Greene to campus.
Mr. Greene discussed his book Justice at Dachau: the Trials
of an American Prosecutor. The Nuremberg trials, which brought
charges against a handful of Nazi top brass, have been well-documented.
Before now, however, little was known about the much larger
proceedings that took place 65 miles south, on the grounds of
the former Dachau concentration camp. The American Military
chief prosecutor, William Denson, was a soft-spoken Southern
gentleman, a devout Presbyterian, who had to overcome his own
disbelief at the extent of the horror, prosecute crimes that
international law had never described, and prove to the world
that America could provide a defeated enemy with fair trials.
Denson staved off pressures from Army superiors for quick victories,
and after two years of grueling courtroom proceedings achieved
a near-perfect record of convictions. Writer Joshua M. Greene
is a five-time recipient of TV Guide’s Best Programs of the
Year award, Director of Strategic Planning for the World Council
of Religious Leaders, and was chosen by the United Nations to
produce a television special honoring the U.N.’s 50th anniversary.
The event was a huge success and we thank
Boston College Hillel and Hillel Council of New England for
their co-sponsorship. |

» December 2004 :: Chanukah
 |
Happy Hanukkah! Prof. Blum hosted the
JLSA Chanukah party. We took a break from studying and celebrated
with dinner (lasagna, salad, and latkes), lit candles for the
first night of Chanukah, and had lively discussions with BCLS
Professors. |
