What IS "Diversity" Anyway???
Does it include IDEOLOGICAL Diversity?
Or is it merely a POLITICALLY CORRECT way to indoctrinate students with a particular set of views on social and political issues?
The BCLS FEDERALIST SOCIETY is pleased to welcome Boston criminal and civil liberties attorney
HARVEY A. SILVERGLATE
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21 at 3:15 Room 115B
Harvey Silverglate is co-author of The Shadow University: The Betrayal of Liberty on American Campuses and founder of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (F.I.R.E.).
In his book, The Shadow University, Attorney Silverglate (and co-author Alan Kors, professor of history at UPENN) argues that "political correctness," as advocated on college and university campuses, is hostile to notions of ideological diversity and true academic freedom. Silverglate maintains that the current regime - epitomized by speech codes, tendentious "thought reforming" freshman orientations and academic disciplinary proceedings, which lack basic due process - prevents the free and honest debate of controversial issues regarding race, gender, religion and sexual orientation.
Attorney Silverglate, who is a past president of the Massachusetts Civil Liberties Union and former professor at Harvard Law School, has been involved with a number of high profile cases including the recent lawsuit against Brandies University challenging its academic disciplinary procedures and the famous trial of English nanny Louise Woodward. He regularly writes on constitutional and civil libertarian issues in publications such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and National Law Journal.
