The very existence and ultimate success of the oral advocacy events at BCLS depend upon the efforts and enthusiasm of the attorneys who volunteer to judge each round of competition. Students who choose to participate in these extra-curricular activities take their involvement very seriously, learning a great deal in the process both from practicing the skills honed by the competition itself and from the knowledgeable and helpful judges who make the entire process possible.

The BSA welcomes attorneys who would like to judge any of the annual events: the 1L Negotiation Competition, the 1L Client Counseling Competition, the 2L Grimes Moot Court Competition, and the 3L Mock Trial Competition. While the duties of serving as a judge vary somewhat by event, they usually involve becoming generally familiar with the problem to be faced by the students in that round of competition and then observing and judging an evening of competition at the law school campus in Newton, Massachusetts.

Many judges over the years have commented on what a rewarding experience it is to contribute to the learning opportunities of those about to enter the legal profession. If you think you may be able to give just one evening of your time at any point throughout the academic year, the BSA would love to hear from you!
