BLSA's COMMITTEES

BLSA Career Services

The BCSC is dedicated to the professional pursuit of BC BLSA students regardless of whether they intend to enter the public or private sector upon graduation. This committee will focus on cover letter and resume writing, as well as navigating all job search systems such as NALP, Martindale-Hubble, LexisNexis, and Westlaw. The BCSC also focuses on connecting with BC alumni in our search for networking contacts in the professional world. The committee also focuses on how to recruit for "out of state" positions, keeping in mind that not all BLSA students want to remain in the Boston area.

BLSA Northeast Consortium (BNC)

The BNC Committee is responsible for coordinating networking sessions with the other BLSA chapters in the state to insure that the local chapters: (1) Meet each other and socialize, (2) Stay in regular contact, (3) Inform each other of what each group is working on and share information, and (4) Use each other for support.

Community Service

The primary goal this year for the community service committee is to be proactively involved in the lives of students at Codman Academy Charter School. Codman Academy is a charter high school located in Dorchester, MA and has a student body that is made up of 98% students of color. Working with these young people gives BLSA members an opportunity to break out of the Newton/Law School bubble and become involved in a positive educational and community effort to help mentor bright, young people of color who have many of the same career and life goals that many of us BLSA members had as high school students. Other community service projects include voter registration and voter mobilization.

Foreign Service

We in BLSA firmly belive that service is an essential element of the Catholic and Jesuit traditions upon which Boston College and Boston College Law school were founded. In addition to providing much needed humanitarian assistance to the citizens of other countries, we are hopeful that the trip will serve as an opportunity for those students who participate to educate themselves; and the larger BC community about the current social, political and legal systems in other countries and in someway make a contribution to the rebuilding of that country.

"Kwanzaa was created to introduce and reinforce seven basic values of African culture which contribute to building and reinforcing family, community and culture among African American people." The BC Kwanzaa celebration will showcase talents between BLSA CD students (Black Law Students Association College Division) and the graduate BLSA students to reaffirm 7 principles of KWANZAA -- unity, self determination, collective work, responsibility, faith, purpose, creativity and cooperative economics.
