Necessary Payroll Procedures: All work-study students hired
as administrative assistants / legal interns must see Lisa DiNapoli,
Fiscal Officer, Stuart M305, Dean's Suite to complete the necessary
payroll paperwork for the academic year. Students cannot be hired
until they fill out the necessary payroll paperwork. Note: if a student
is returing to work for the academic year, he/she must fill out a
peach color coded work-study academic form. Students working for
Boston College for the first time must fill out a payroll packet
of documentation including the peach work-study form, form includes:

Law Library Job Opportunities:
Library Assistant III: Duties include assisting patrons at the
Circulation/Reserves Desk and in the computer labs with minimum
supervision; maintaining library security and enforcing policies;
and other tasks as assigned. Requires familiarity with legal terminology
and computer technology. Attention to detail and good service orientation

Computer User Assistant: Duties include providing
front-line software and hardware support for the users of the Law

and Macintosh OS X platforms and Microsoft Office software desirable.

L.E.N.D FELLOWSHIP:
6 credits – Fall 2007 & Spring 2008
The Leadership Education and Neurodevelopment Disabilities Fellowship
is an interdisciplinary program for graduate students who want
to learn more about serving the needs of developmentally disabled
children and their families. The LEND Fellowship is a national program
with its regional base at Children’s Hospital. Fellows meet
each Friday morning for seminars with outside experts, work in
teams on improving delivery
of services to children, and travel to Washington, D.C. to meet
with legislators and study the impact of the legislative process
on various public policy goals. Boston College Law students are the
only law students invited to apply for this prestigious program.
It runs from September through
May and carries 6 independent study credits (3 credits per term).This

Employment Opportunity at Latinas “Know Your Rights!” Project
of Greater Boston Legal Services, Fall 2007:
The Latinas “Know Your Rights!” Project
is a community lawyering project based in Waltham for Latina immigrant
survivors
of domestic violence. The Project will hire two work-study eligible
legal interns for the Fall 2007 semester at $12.00 per hour for approximately
10
hours per week. Depending on interest and capabilities, Project interns
will work in one of several areas as follows:
o Casehandling - immigration petitions, restraining orders and/or
benefits cases for battered immigrant women;
o Community leadership group - Creation of educational material
for Latina immigrant women which introduces them to the US legal
system and their rights as survivors of domestic violence. Interns
will do basic research and create the content for the workshops
and accompanying booklets. Creativity, computer presentation skills
and the ability to convey legal concepts to lay people are a plus
for work on the education project;
o Systems advocacy – documentation of systemic barriers
that prevent battered immigrant women from accessing services or
exercising
their legal rights. Spanish language capability is preferred but
not necessary. The Project office is in Waltham (site of BC’s
Civil Litigation Clinic, 15 minutes from the law school) with an
additional office

Law School Graduate Technology
Consultant.
The Law Library's Administrative and Technology Resources (ATR)
department is currently accepting resumes for the Law School Graduate
Technology Consultant position for the 2007-2008
academic year.
You must be a graduate student at Boston College to apply. Preference
is given to law students applying for the law school position.
The Graduate Technology Consultant (GTC) will work directly with
ATR in providing technical support for desktop computing and communications
needs of the law school community. Tasks include, but are not limited
to: desktop troubleshooting and support, workstation set up and
configuration, software and system installations and upgrades,
virus, spyware and adware prevention and removal, assistance with
network activation and remote access, user training, hardware and
software inventory maintenance and web development. The Law School
GTC’s primary responsibility is providing Student Help Center
coverage.
The position requires expertise in the use of Windows XP Operating
System, Microsoft Office Suite, an understanding of email clients,
especially MS Outlook and BC's webmail client. Database and web
development skills and experience with Mac OS X are a plus.
The Summer GTC is required to work 25 hours per week for 12 weeks
and receive a service stipend of $6,000 for the summer. This stipend
is considered taxable income.
The Academic Year GTC is required to work 15 hours per week for
32 weeks and receive a service stipend of $12,000 per academic
year. The stipend is paid out in 8 monthly payments of $1,500 per
month. This stipend is considered taxable income.

Research Assistant needed for Professor Mary Holper.
The Boston College Immigration and Asylum Project (BCIAP) seeks
a work-study student for the 2007 academic year. BCIAP represents
non-citizens who are detained in county jails by the Immigration
and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of
Homeland Security because ICE is trying to deport these individuals from
the U.S. The project conducts
regular "Know Your Rights" presentations at the local
jails where immigration detainees are held and conducts intake
with the detainees to determine whether they are eligible for a
defense to deportation under U.S. immigration law. The project
represents detainees in immigration court to secure their release
from custody and the right to remain in the U.S. The work study
student will help prepare case filings, answer phone calls and
letters from detained immigrants and their families, and assist
with office organization and other tasks as requested by the staff
attorney. There is a preference for students who speak Spanish
and/or Portuguese, although a second language is not required.
