Victoria Fisher Writing Contest,
Women & The Law:
Do you have a special interest in Women and the Law? If so you
are invited to write an essay of not more than 10,000 words relating
to the above topic. The winning entry will be awarded $250.00.
The purpose of the annual prize is to stimulate interest in the
relationship between women and the law. Victoria Fisher was a
lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Leicester.
She was a founder member of the Women and Law group and an active
trade unionist. Entries to be received by September 30th,

St. Mary's University School of Law Competition:
The 2007 Lone Star Classic will be held on November 8, 9, and 10th
in San Antonio, Texas. The competition is open to all law schools
that have been accredited by the American Bar Association. The
competition committee will select 16 teams, of four students
each, to compete. Each School selected to compete may enter no
more than two teams. While in past tournaments the problem involved
a civil case, this year the problem will be a criminal case.
The case will take place in the hypothetical state of Lone Star
and will utilize the Federal Rules of Evidence. If you are interested

Collins in Stuart, M308 to fill out the form. The entry fee will
be $500.00 for one team and $600.00 for two teams. Entry fees
will be due no later than Ocotber 10, 2007. This
year the preliminary rounds will take place on Thursday, November
8th and Friday, November 9th. Instead of breaking to quarter finals
as in the past, this year the teams will break to semi-final rounds
on Saturday, November 10th, with the final round on the afternoon
of the 10th, at the law school's newly renovated state of the art
courtroom. We will announce the various winners of the preliminary
rounds at a dinner buffet and reception on Friday evening. Awards
for the preliminary rounds will include best advocate for the preliminary
rounds, best opening, and best summation. If you have any questions,

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship Opportunity for New Americans:
Please note a Fellowship Opportunity for Law students who qualify
as “
New Americans” and belong to the class of 2009 or 2010. Qualifying
criteria pertaining to status as “New American” encompass
one of the following: 1. U.S. Resident Alien, i.e., holds a Green
Card; 2. naturalized US citizen; 3. child of two parents who are
both naturalized citizens. Additionally, there is an age cut off
for applicants: students born prior to November 1st, 1977 do not
meet the age criteria. The Fellowship is comprised of a grant for
up to 2 years for living expenses (“maintenance”) of
$20,000 and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the
attending institution, up to
a maximum of $16,000 per academic year. Post mark date must be
by November 1st, 2007.

10th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative
Writing Competition and Scholarship Program:
The scholarships are a joint effort of the GRAMMY Foundation and
the ABA Forum on Entertainment and Sports Industries to provide law
students with oppurtunities in the field of entertainment law. Winner
of the scholarship have found that the exposure created through the
program has aided in career development for years to come. Past winners
now work as music and intellectual property lawyers throuhout the
country.
The grand prize winner receives $5,000.00 scholarship and four runner-ups
each receive $1,500.00 scholarships. All five winning articles will
be published in a major law journal. The winners are also flown to
Los Angeles where they are honored at the Entertainment Law Initiative
Luncheon in front of an audience comprised of some of the top entertainment
attorneys in the country. The winners also attend the GRAMMY week
events including the GRAMMY Awards telecast, and The MusicCares Person
of the Year Dinner honoring Aretha Franklin. Paper submissions deadline

The NRA Civi Rights Defense Fund:
The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund is sponsoring a writing contest commencing
July 1, 2007 and concluding June 1, 2008 for law students. The subject of the
contest is "The Right of the Individual to Keep and Bear Arms as a Federally
place winners in the amounts of $5,000, $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 respectively.
Eligibility: The contest is open to all individuals who are law students at the
date of submission and who have not been previously admitted to practice law
in the United States. Admission to practice after submission of the paper is
not disqualifying.
Format: Papers should be double spaced, not exceed 30 pages in length, exclusive
of endnotes, of law review quality, and cannot have been previously published.
Publication subsequent to submission is encouraged. Citations should conform
with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, current edition.
Please mail submission to: Civil Rights Defense Fund, c/o Office of the General
Counsel, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030. Submission must be post marked
or delievered on or before June 1, 2008. The author's full name,
address, and phone numbers, as well as brief discourage on the author's legal
