THE PRODUCTIONS

The Mainstage Season
The Department of Theatre in association with the Robsham Theater Arts Center forms the Boston College University Theatre, which produces six Mainstage productions each academic year, three per semester. The Mainstage season features four full-budget productions directed by Department faculty and distinguished guest directors. Plays are either presented in the 630-seat Robsham Theatre, which features a proscenium-arch stage, or in the more intimate black box Bonn Studio Theatre, which seats anywhere from 100 to 250, depending upon the set design.

Student Workshop Productions
The Department also produces two student directed and designed Student Workshop Productions. Juniors who have successfully completed the Department's directing program submit play proposals for their senior year. Up to two are selected. Student designers may apply  in the Spring to design the  sets, costumes and lights for the following year's Workshop shows. Directors and designers work under faculty supervision for course credit. Workshop productions are classroom experiences designed to enable qualified students the opportunity to explore and create with full departmental support.

Other Opportunities
Student groups: In addition to the University Theatre productions, various student performance groups present work on campus, most of which rely upon departmentally trained directors and designers. Boston College also sponsors several student improviational comedy troupes.
Dance: The Department offers a range of courses for credit in dance. Student dance groups also operate on campus.
Abbey Theatre Program: Many theatre majors also participate in the Summer Abbey Theatre Program. Sponsored through the Boston College Irish Studies program, students receive course credit for spending five weeks studying at Ireland's most famous theatre.
