THE ROBSHAM THEATER ARTS CENTER

The Robsham Theater Arts Center (RTAC) is the first permanent home designed for theater production at Boston College. Built in 1981, the facility houses a 591 seat main theater, a large lobby and exhibit space, a black box studio theater, a green room, scenery and costume shops, dressing rooms, a design classroom, box office, and faculty and staff offices.

The main theater is a traditional proscenium house with limited thrust capabilities. It seats 591 and is fully hadicapped accessible. Designed specifically for educational theater, it includes a completely equipped stage house with fly gallery, an orchestra pit for some twenty musicians,adequate wing and backstage space, and state of the art lighting and sound systems.

The building also includes a flexible black box Bonn Studio Theater that will seat 150 - 200. The Bonn Studio is used for Department of Theatre Arts workshop productions, as well as a laboratory for dance and theater classes. The Department of Theatre Arts is in residence at the RTAC, as are the Robsham Dance and Theatre Company and the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble.

The RTAC and the Department of Theatre Arts combine their efforts under an artistic organization known as the University Theater. The University presents 4 faculty directed and 2 student directed productions each academic year.

DIRECTIONS

From points North, South, and West of Boston
Take Route 95 (128) to Exit 24 Take a right at the end of the off ramp onto Rte 30E (Commonwealth Avenue). Follow approximately 6 miles to the BC Campus. Go past the Boston College Main Gate to the first set of lights (St. Ignatius Church will be on your right). Take a right at the lights and another immediate right into the BC Campus. Go past the Robsham Theater (200 yards ahead on your left) to the parking area behind the theater. Parking is also available in the parking garage next to the theater lot. All parking is free of charge.

From Downtown Boston via Mass Pike
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike west to Exit 17. Go left over the bridge after passing the Sheraton Tara hotel. Take your first right onto Center Street. At the 4th set of lights take a left onto Commonwealth Avenue. Follow 1.5 miles to the BC campus. Follow past the Boston College Main Gate to the first set of lights (St. Ignatius Church will be on your right). Take a right at the lights and another immediate right into the BC Campus. Parking is also available in the parking garage next to the theater lot. All parking is free of charge.

From Downtown via Commonwealth Avenue
Follow Commonwealth Avenue west to the end of the MBTA tracks (Boston-Newton line). St. Ignatius Church will be on your left. Turn left at the Church and take an immediate right into the church parking lot. The Robsham Theater is the third building on the left. Go past the theater to the parking lot in the rear.

By Public Transportation
Take the MBTA green line "B" trolley to the Boston College Campus (last stop). Cross Commonwealth Avenue and take a right after passing St. Ignatius Church. The Robsham Theater Arts Center is approximately 200 yards ahead on your left .
