St. Francis House

Nature and Purpose
Saint Francis House is host to New England's largest, most comprehensive array of day programs and services for homeless and poor men and women. Founded in 1984, Saint Francis House has evolved from a breadline into a provider of a full range of emergency, rehabilitative and transitional services. We are centrally located in downtown Boston at 39 Boylston Street and server over 500 individuals daily. Our mission is to care for those who cannot help themselves, and to assist those who are capable of becoming self-functioning members of society. Among the services that we offer are:

Tasks
PULSE students have the opportunity to interact with guests in a variety of ways.  The 10-12 hour/week commitment can be met Monday through Friday in the following areas:
The Kitchen - assisting with meal preparation, serving and clean-up from 9:00AM-2:00PM.
The Dining Room - assisting our guests, bussing tables and clean-up from 11:30AM-1:30PM.
The Day Center - offering  hospitality, friendship and  assistance from 7:30AM-3:00PM.
Art Studio- assisting our guests in arts & crafts projects from 9am-11:30AM and 12:30-3:00PM.
English as 2nd Language Classes- assisting students.  Class schedule sometimes varies;   current schedule is 9:15-11:45AM on Mon., Wed., & Fri.
Housing- assisting the employment counseling staff with assorted administrative tasks between 9AM-3PM.
Housing- assisting housing staff in organization and advocacy between 9AM-3PM.
The Clothing Distribution area - distributing clothing to guests from 9:00 AM-11:30PM M-F and   from 1:00PM-2:30PM M & W.

Supervision
Supervision is provided by the area supervisor in collaboration with the Volunteer Supervisor.
