Rockwell House

Nature and Purpose
The 28 Rockwell Street House is Pine Street/Paul Sullivan Housing's first permanent residence for women and men living with HIV/AIDS. Residents come from chronically homeless backgrounds to this supported living environment. Services include case management, an evening meal, frequent activities, and a 24 hour support staff. One of the primary goals of the house is to make the lives of those here as pleasant and as comfortable as possible. Every effort is made to insure that residents feel, and are, safe and secure. Resocialization is often an important aspect of what we provide for many residents whose lives have been impacted by issues of homelessness and substance abuse. Staff and volunteers strive to make this a home that will provide the highest quality of life for each resident on any given day.

Tasks
Evening Meal:  The evening meal is the only time of the day that all residents come together to partake in a family style meal.  PULSE students will assist in the preparation, participation, and clean-up of the evening meal.

Activities:  An activities coordinator plans recreational activities according to the specifications and requests of the residents.  PULSE students will accompany individuals and groups on outings such as movie matinees, walks, trips to special events, etc.

Practical Support:  Staff and volunteers must be willing to do what is best and necessary to create a comfortable and safe setting for residents.  Volunteers who are flexible in this sense are needed.  PULSE students may be asked to answer phones, assist with gardening, or decorate for a special event.
