The Seven-Step Placement Process

 Step One
Read the PULSE Print.

The PULSE Print is the student's first source of information about the fifty available placements. PULSE students should read through the descriptions of the placements and make a preliminary selection of those agencies that interest them.

Step Two
Register for advisement and turn in registration form

Friday, September 7. Each student signs up at the PULSE office (McElroy 117) for an advisement session and turns in their registration form indicating the four placements which most interest them.

 Step Three
Attend the Town Meeting

Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Devlin Room 008. This meeting is geared towards informing PULSE students about the different placements available to them in the Program. Supervisors from all fifty current placements attend to tell students about their agency and program. The meeting begins with an initial assembly to explain the placement process to the students. Next, students are divided into small groups to discuss the placements they are interested in with individual supervisors. Here, students have the opportunity to ask questions about the placement to help them determine if this is a placement that they would like to work at for the year.

Step Four
Advisement

Thursday, September 13 to Monday, September 17. During this 15-minute meeting, two Council Members go over the possible choices with the student, help him/her decide what placements are best suited to his/her interests, and answer any questions which he/she may have about the placement process.

 Step Five
Visit preferred sites

Monday, September 17 to Friday, September 28. Students are given tours of the agencies by the PULSE Council Member who coordinates that placement. Tours give interested students the opportunity to see firsthand the setting in which they would work. Sign up sheets for tours are posted outside the PULSE office.

 Step Six
Interviews (if required)

Monday, September 17 to Friday, September 28. Some placements will conduct formal interviews. Interviews may be held on campus or at the agency. Sign up sheets for interviews are posted outside the PULSE office.

 Step Seven
Begin placement work

Monday, October 1. If the placement process has not been completed successfully, begin again at Step 5.
