Crittenton Hastings House

Nature and Purpose
The Crittenton Hastings House is a Brighton-based non-profit organization which assists individuals and families to obtain the tools they need to attain and sustain economic independence and self-sufficiency. Thousands of individuals are served each year through Crittenton's comprehensive continuum of services in the areas of housing, education, employment, early education, nutrition, health, and counseling. Crittenton is recognized as a national model in breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty and welfare dependency. Most clients of the education department are at-risk urban youth and most are young parents.

Tasks
Interns in the education department at the Crittenton Hastings House will either intern with the education case managers or the classroom teachers. They will be directly involved in providing the necessary support for the students in our five on-site alternative education programs.

Case Management Interns will accompany case managers on community outreach, and will field inquiry phone calls. A case management intern will co-lead lifeskills groups and may choose to develop a lesson plan and lead a group independently. As the primary case manager for 2 or 3 students, an intern will perform the initial intake and assessment, and will address the student's individual needs. Case management interns would meet with each student on their caseload once a week and help to develop an individual service plan for their students. Education interns would be encouraged to join all staff team meetings if scheduling allows.

Teaching Interns will provide classroom support to teachers in our five alternative education classrooms. Students who are in need of tutoring will be identified and assigned an intern. Interns will work closely with the classroom teachers to develop a tutoring curriculum. Teaching interns would be working with students on an individual basis or small groups settings and will be provided the necessary training and support to provide instruction to students in the five GED testing areas: Math, Science, Writing Skills, Literature, and Social Studies.

Time Requirements
Pulse students would work two four shifts a week during program hours which are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
