DYS/Spectrum Chelsea Community Office
Nature and Purpose
The Chelsea Community Office is an innovative collaboration between
the Department of Youth Services and Spectrum Health Systems to provide
treatment for DYS committed youth and their families. In order to protect
the public, prevent crime, and promote positive opportunities for juvenile
offenders (DYS Mission Statement) youth are offered a continuum of quality
services within a safe environment that fosters respect for self and others.
This is acomplished by utilizing community resources and providing opportunities
for youth to become productive citizens. (Spectrum Adolescent Services
Mission Statement.)
DYS committed youth in the communities of Chelsea, Winthrop, East Boston,
Everett, Revere, and Charlestown are offered an array of programming in
the office every weekday from 3-7 p.m. These include groups in anger management,
substance abuse, skillstreaming, and job skills; computer classes, a writing
program, and an on-site tutorial program. The office also offers a family
support group and bi-weekly recreational opportunities. The staff offers
family meditation on request, and a community service program that benefits
our community partners and our clients.
