Campus School
Nature and Purpose
The Boston College Campus School serves students ages 3-21 with multiple
disabilities including complex health care needs. The program provides
student centered, educational, and therapeutic services in a school based
setting, as well as, consultation and training to local school systems
and families. Using a transdisciplinary approach, student growth is achieved
through the development of a stimulating environment and challenging instruction
tailored to the needs of the individual.
Tasks
Placement in this setting offers an opportunity
to learn and carry out programs along side classroom staff. These
include innovative techniques in educational, theraputic, and health care
delivery. PULSE students feel they learn a great deal from the models
provided by classroom teachers while developing their own potential for
understanding and caring about individuals with disabilities.
Campus School Classrooms
PULSE students work as classroom aides, assisting
teachers, therapists and teaching assistants to implement students’ individualized
programs and group lessons, as well as, participate in community outings.
Eagle Eyes
Eagle Eyes, a state-of-the-art communication
program, has been developed for students who are physically challenged
and lack functional speech to use a computer utilizing eye gaze.
Supported Employment Program
The Supported Employment Program, whose clients
work in Boston College Dining Halls, offer some Campus School PULSE students
an opportunity to work with adults with disabilities.
Time Requirement
This year ten PULSE students will be accepted into the program. These
students should expect to make a 10 hour weekly time commitment.
