Youth on Fire
Nature and Purpose
Youth on Fire was created out of a need for services for 14-24 year olds who are disenfranchised and without a stable living situation. We provide a safe, youth specific environment in which to access a variety of resources. Our approach is non-judgmental, and all services are available free of charge. We are committed to creating an alternative safe place for homeless young adults, and include the ideas and opinions of this population in the planning and direction of the center. Services available at the center are health care services, counseling and support, food and nutrition programs, showers, laundry, clothing, free voicemail boxes, computers, educational opportunities, job search, peer led education and support groups, art supplies, and linkages to additional services.
Tasks
Students would serve as staff members of Youth on Fire, spending the majority of their time working directly with patrons. Responsibilities include greeting and serving the youth, screening patrons at reception, interacting with youth on the floor, and becoming a resource for housing, health, drug related issues, and employment. Students will have the opportunity to make their own presentations or formulate information on relevant issues.
Time Requirements
Students are expected to work two four-hour shifts per week between the hours of noon and six o'clock. The center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Supervision
Youth on Fire will provide supervision on a weekly basis and will also be available for additional support or guidance on an as-needed basis. David Clark, Program coordinator and Casandra Clark, Multi service counselor, will provide on site supervision.
