Volunteers!
Come
at Once
to the

Guard Cavalry Protective Corps

This recruitment poster for a Free Corps unit in Berlin portrays an image quite similar to the American "Minute Man" concept. Here, a civilian puts down his umbrella and fedora hat, lays aside his desk work, takes the telephone off the hook, and puts on his old uniform, puts on his ceremonial dagger (on the chair) and picks up his waiting rifle, in order to defend the Fatherland.

The poster implies that with such chaos in the country only these volunteers can restore order. There is no message however as to what the threat might be. No sign of Bolshevik or counter-revolutionary monsters.

Still, the entire concept of the Free Corps, with its super-patriotism ever stressed, was clearly right-wing and anti-Republican.
