Recruitment Center
Friedberg-Hesse Castle

This arresting recruitment poster was issued by a Hessian unit. Unlike most posters of this kind, it features very modern and slick graphics.

The color-schme, the styalized horse, and the slender soldier with the drawn sword, is more in keeping with contemporary advertisement than the traditional imagry of most right-wing posters. Whether or not it is effective in this endeavor is another question.

What this example does show, however, is that artists from a variety of political and cultural backgrounds were prepared to put their talents to the service of political causes or -- more cynically -- were ready to make a living any way they could.
