is marching!

One of the most popular and successful Free Corps was one raised by an officer named Ehrhardt. Based in Bavaria, this brigade atracted a strong following among the anti-Republican and anti-Bolshevik population of that state. In 1919, the Ehrhardt Brigade was one of the units responsible for recapturing Munich from the "Bavarian Soviets" and in the process carried out a wave of executions.

Although the Swastika was a common symbol among right-wing organizations throughout southern Germany and Austria, the Ehrhardt Brigade was the most famous unit to adopt this symbol. Subsequently, many people automatically thought of this unit when they saw the infant NSDAP using the same symbol.
