Farmers Help Us, The Cities are Starving!

Despite the armistice of 11 November 1918, the Allies continued to maintain their crippling blockade of German ports, preventing even the badly needed emergency relief from being sent to defeated Germany. As part of their campaign to restore stability among the starving workers in the cities, the provisional government issued this poster urging German farmers to start winter planting.

The quotation at the bottom is from Goethe:

The little buried pot
is weighty with gold.
Take your plow and
harvest it to light!
