This Hand leads the Reich

The German Youth follows it

into the Ranks of the Hitler Youth

In still another poster from Baldur von Schirach's campaign to attract young boys into the Hitler Youth this graphically stunning use of Hitler's outstretched hand becomes a powerful symbol of the unity of Youth and Führer.

By this time, the cult of the Führer had become so strong that the artist need not even show whose hand it was -- naturally it belongs to the Führer (in German the noun comes directly from führen, which means to lead)

In this particular poster, the Hitler Youth have individually disappeared into powerful columns of marching figures. It is an arresting symbol of what Hitler and Schirach wanted to achieve.
