Goddess of the West

In addition to election posters and propaganda issued by individual Nazi organizations, such as the Hitler Youth or the Fighting Union for German Culture, the Nazis kept up a steady stream of anti-Semitic placards and posters. This particular one serves no particularly significant purpose, but shows dramatically the continuing focus which the Nazis directed to their so-called "Jewish Question."

Here, an ugly-looking Jew is shown hiding behind a charming heroic goddess. Her breast-plates are labeled: Freedom of the Press, and Legal Protection of Minorities.

Her weapons are the sword of Pacifism, and the pen (which is mightier than the sword) of Humanism. Her shield bears the inscription: Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity.

Graphically, the poster argues that Jews thrive by passing themselves off as champions of freedom, liberty, pacifism, and humanism, but that this is only a disguise. They are using these "sacred myths" of the West in order to work their own devious plans.
