This detail from The White Horse shows Constable's deliberate and effective use of the color red. All around are the numerous shades of greens and browns that is verdant nature. Man's place in this is certainly harmonious, but man introduces colors that nature does not know. Here, the harness of the horse and the shirt on one of the men.
