Two short papers are required for this course, one on the exhibition currently on view in the McMullen Museum, and one on Surrealist film. You may choose which to do first, but you must complete each assignment.
Note: The assignment for the final paper/project will be discussed later.
The Art History Paper:
GOAL: To write a brilliant, creative, and original paper that could be published in Dada/Surrealism.
The assignment is to write a short essay on the exhibition Visionary States: Surrealist Prints from the Collection of Gilbert Kaplan. This can take the form of a review of the exhibition, or an essay on any one artist in the exhibition, or it may focus on a theme represented in the prints.
Research: You should normally have 3-5 references to support or supplement your original interpretation of the work. Be sure to consult the texts for the class, and their bibliographies. LENGTH: 3pp., typed, double-spaced, using accepted formats from MLA Style Sheet, Chicago Manual of Style, or other manual.
