The Film Studies Program offers internships at the Coolidge Corner Cinema, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Film and Video Foundation, the Boston Phoenix, and in the past, WGBH TV. Additional photographic internships may also be possible.
The Cinema Society, the programming arm of the Film Studies Program, has developed a very diversified series of films that have been aimed at special commemorations, departmental needs and interests, and current courses. Film series have also been designed in conjunction with national and international conferences, such as those recently organized to illuminate the Spanish Civil War, WW II, Scandinavian studies, and the Holocaust.
Two support systems have revolutionized Film Studies at Boston College. The Media Department of O'Neill Library has acquired approximately 5000+ videos, films, and laser discs to support the various courses in the program. The O'Neill Library has also made a concentrated effort to purchase books and journals that tie in closely with the film courses. The Audio-Visual Department has supervised the renovation of several major auditoriums (Cushing 001, McGuinn 121, Higgins 304/307, Chemistry 127, etc.) setting in place excellent projection systems with large image for VHS, 3/4" videotapes, and laser discs.
