Steen, Antwerp

Located on the Schelde river, the Steen in Antwerp also has a 9th c. origin. In 836 it was destroyed by Vikings. The lower part visible today dates from c. 1225. The castle was restored in 1520, and later used as a prison until 1823. It was rebuilt in 1890, and restored in 1953. It now serves as a national maritime museum.
