Purpose: Channel 46 attempts to realize in an appropriate way the mission of Boston College, as a Jesuit University, on the BC cable television system.
Mission: Channel 46 is committed to transmit quality programs based on themes of faith and justice, providing the occasion for reflection and discussion among the members of its target audience, thereby offering an alternative to the kinds of entertainment and information transmitted on BC's other fifty-one channels.
Target Audience: Channel 46 serves the members of the BC Community living on campus -- including students, staff, and faculty.
Background: Channel 46 began as a pilot project in September, 1999. After two years, encouraged by positive feedback, three developments occurred: (a) Channel 46 was placed under the auspices of BC's Vice President for Mission and Ministry, Father Joseph Appleyard, S.J.; (b) A Web Site was added to complement the cable channel; and (c) the programming schedule was revised so that now it consists mainly of Documentaries produced by undergraduate students who make up the Channel 46 staff. The project continued this way until July, 2005 when its status as a pilot project changed and Channel 46 became an ongoing enterprise.
