Be literally dragged Achilles
into the war by the scruff of his neck. It might be that he already regretted
it. For Achilles was after
everyone in sight: young men, whom
he genuinely desired, and girls, as a proof that he was like everybody
else. A fiend in battle so that everyone would see he was not a coward,
he did not know what to do with himself once the fighting was done." (Pg.
83) |
"If only nothing survived me but
my hatred. If the hatred sprouted from
my grave, a tree of hate that would
whisper: 'Achilles the brute.' If they felled the tree, it would grow again.
If they pinned it down, wach blade of grass would take over the message:
'Achilles the brute, Achilles the brute.'
And every minstrel who dared to sing of Achilles would die in torture on
the spot." (Pg. 79) |

“My attention, everyone’s attention,
focused on the monstrous crimes of this rabid beast, who with his wanton
band had thrown himself on the countryside around Mount Ida—where Aeneas
was! He plundered the villages, massacred the men, raped the women, cut
the throats of the goats and sheep, trampled down the fields.” (Pg. 86) |
