Priam - Son of Laomedon, and the last king of Troy. During his rule he extended his control to include the Hellespont. He first married Arisbe, and then Hecuba who became the mother of his many children, including Hector, Paris, Cassandra and Polyxena. Priam is described by Homer as a gentle and powerless man. 13 of Priam's sons were killed in the last year of the war - Polydorus, Lycaon and Hector were all killed by Achilles on the same day - and with the death of Hector Troy's hopes and Priam's own spirit was broken. Priam ransomed Hector's corpse from Achilles, and was then killed after Troy fell by Achilles' son, Neoptolemus, on an altar.
