Agamemnon – king of Argos, son of Atreus, and brother of Menelaus. Father of Orestes and Iphigenia, husband to Clytemnestra.  He was commander in chief of the Greek army in the Trojan War, and in order to gain favorable winds for his journey, he was told by Calchas to sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia to appease Artemis.  While in Troy he takes Cassandra hostage, and upon his return to Argos he and Cassandra are killed by Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus.
