Women’s President’s Trophy @ Boston Univ. Boston University 9/29/02 Highlights: The weather was nice but the breeze was uncooperative. We had a slight wind delay before the first race. The early races were a little slow and sketchy but 5 out of the first 6 beats of the day were very square and we always started in breeze. It's never easy on the river when the breeze goes northeast or left of that. The breeze then died to nothingness, while on the other side of the bridge wisps of easterly were filling in. Time for a break. Racing resumed as the breeze filled in nicely for a while, although it slid back towards northeast, instead of a solid easterly that would have been welcomed. We got a couple good races off before the breeze began to dance around again. It played some catch me if you can games as it went past east into southeast before coming back NE then E. Needless to say, I had one heck of a time trying to get race 4B off, but it was a good one. The highlights were the great day, the lack of protests and the lack of breakdowns. In fact, the aging FJ fleet didn't look half bad, you know, from a distance, when the light hit them just right. The real highlight were the competitors. What a friendly group, a joy to compete against and run races for. I heard a lot of "nice race" out there and lots of sailors saying "thanks" to the RC as they finished. Which was kinda of nice because after some of that slow going stuff I was expecting to see scowls. Wind Conditions: Light and shifty, 0-7 NE-ESE-NE-E RESULTS: 1. Harvard 17 13 30 2. Brown 14 21 35 3.
