Chris Conway
Tennis Playing Experience:
I have been playing tennis recreationally for 25 years and competitively for eight years during a middle portion of that span. As a youth I competed in KTA (Kentucky Tennis Association) and Southern Regional tournaments as well as on club and high school teams. Though I occasionally compete in single matches today, I prefer doubles as it is more social and less exhausting.

Tennis Instructing Experience:
I have been more on the receiving rather than giving end when it comes to instruction. I am versed in a variety approaches and methods, have hit through a host of drills (some that were fun and instructional and some that emphasized the instructional aspect a bit more), and am competent in singles and doubles match play strategy. That said, I have instructed beginners and intermediates at youth camps and presently I am researching the latest methods in instruction.

Age Preference (Adult, Youth, Infant):
Anyone who wants to learn to swing a racquet or learn to swing a racquet better is my preference. Adults, youth, infants that have progressed to the grasping stage, novices, intermediates, or those just looking for someone with whom to help work out the kinks, I am happy to be at your service or return of service.

Other experience/qualifications:
Off the court I have worked as a tutor and teacher for middle-schoolers which at the very least will help with keeping score. I love the game of tennis very much, even more so now than when I was younger, and I look forward to sharing that passion with you.

Jeff Davis
I have 15 years experience playing tennis on the Winchester High School Varsity Team, enjoying 3 state championships along the way.  I am also a member of the Boston College Club Tennis Team.  I have 5 years experience instructing tennis at the Winchester Indoor Lawn & Tennis Center, as well as at Boston College Campus Recreation.  I am capable of preparing students for competitive, high school play.  My preferred age group for teaching is youth.

Joey Dimino
I started playing tennis at a local club in 5th grade.  I continued to play for 4 years on Varsity in high school, where I was elected captain junior and senior year.  I was also a Pennsylvania district qualifier during junior and senior year in singles and doubles.  I have taught middle school aged children during my 4 years at high school, and I have taught lessons to children of all ages at Boston College for 1 year.  I prefer teaching youth, adults, or seniors – anyone who wants to learn the ins and outs of tennis.

Joe Lemme
Tennis Playing Experience:
I started playing tennis in high school.  I quickly learned the strokes and rules. Family and friends encouraged me to stay with one of the few inexpensive, global sports that can be played at any age.  I’m very happy that I followed their advice!

Tennis Instructing Experience:
During the 2008-09 academic year, I instructed in a pilot after school program that introduced the sport to elementary and middle school students in Worcester, MA.  During the previous summer, I assistant coached in a southern Connecticut program designed for high school beginners.  Additionally, throughout the past ten summers, I have spent many afternoons out on the tennis courts working with friends and family on their mechanics or welcoming their challenges for a match. Whether engaged in an intense doubles’ rally with my brother against my two uncles or helping a friend to avoid hitting balls out of our court space, every one of these days has been fun!

Age Preference (Adult, Youth, Infant):
Although I am most experienced with the youth age group, I would enjoy teaching beginners of any age the basics of my favorite sport.

Other experience/qualifications:
I will try to run classes that are well balanced between drills and real playing time experience.  I will end each class with a conversation in hopes of hearing your reactions to the day’s lesson and goals for future lessons.  Most importantly, I promise a non-judgmental atmosphere. One of the reasons why I enjoy tennis is that it’s one of the few sports in which I can compete. If I can learn it, anybody can! My encouragement will be specific to and respectful of your tennis needs!

Tennis has been a part of my life since age 8, when I started taking private lessons at the Rusty Miller Tennis Academy in Arcadia, CA. I started playing competitively on a team in middle school and also started competing in USTA junior tournaments (open, designated open, and sectionals) around this time. Southern California is one of the toughest tennis regions in the US but I managed to work my ranking to just outside the top 100 in the boys 18’s division. At Cate High School, I was a four year singles starter on varsity, serving as captain my senior year. Along the way, I was 1st team all-league three times, helped the team reach two CIF-SS Southern Section Championships (and win one), and competed in both the prestigious Ojai tournament and CIF Individuals.

I have attended many tennis camps/academies including UCLA Tennis Camp, Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, ISP Tennis Academy in France, and Nike Tennis Camp at Claremont McKenna College, and this has given me a good idea of what kind of instruction/teaching methods and drills are the most fun and effective. In addition, I was a tennis coach at Nike Camp at Claremont McKenna last summer, working three sessions and working with 60 campers age 7-18. I loved the experience of working with and developing the skills of aspiring tennis players, and would love to work with any age/skill group here at Boston College Campus Rec!

Tennis Playing Experience:
I started playing tennis when I was four at Yorba Linda Country Club, located in southern California. I played at a competitive level during my entire youth in both sectional and national tournaments. I was a four-year varsity player at Esperanza High School. Currently, I am a member of the Boston College club tennis team.

Tennis Instructing Experience:
I have been a youth tennis instructor at the Yorba Linda Country Club for the past four summers during the youth tennis camp. I also volunteer at my high schools annual summer tennis camp and teach incoming freshman.

Age Preference (Adult, Youth, Infant):
Infant and youth

Amy Mcdermott
Tennis Playing Experience:
I started playing tennis at age 4 at Oakley Country Club, Watertown, dedicating my summers to instruction and competitive play.  Continuing my commitment to the game, I played both singles and doubles competitively and recreationally at Newton Country Day School, and Winchester Indoor Tennis Club.

Tennis Instructing Experience:
I spent the 2011 summer instructing at the Plex in private, semi-private, and group lessons for youth of all ages and skill levels.  During the 2010 summer I coached tennis at the West Suburban YMCA’s Camp Pikati Tennis Camp with both experienced and novice players age five through twelve, and continued with some group lessons during the winter.  I look forward to designing a fun and challenging lesson for each student, that focuses on their particular skill level, and what they hope to accomplish.  I am very excited to continue my instructing experience at the BC RecPlex!

Age Preference (Adult, Youth, Infant):
I have extensive experience working with children in both athletic and academic environments; because of this experience, I am comfortable coaching youth, including those under the age of five, to feel comfortable with, and excited about playing tennis.  I would also be excited to work with beginner adults.

Other experience/qualifications:
During the 2010 summer I worked as a counselor at the West Suburban YMCA’s Camp Pikati where I coordinated and taught all kinds of sports and athletic games, including a specific tennis-only portion of the summer for children ages 4-14.  Throughout the past academic year I continued my work with the YMCA as a birthday party coordinator, organizing gym games for children of all ages.  Also during the past academic year, I worked as an Americorps Corps member for Jumpstart for Young Children, implementing early childhood curriculum and supporting family involvement, into a preschool classroom in Brighton where I learned communication skills with preschool children.  I am also CPR and First Aid certified.

Mark Nafash
I have played tennis since the age of 10, and played on my high school team for 4 years.  I have taught group tennis lessons as well as private tennis lessons for children ages 4-12 at Boston College Campus Recreation for the past 2 years.  I have been trained to instruct tennis to children with special needs.  High school tennis has taught me how to play doubles properly, so I have experience with that as well.  I prefer to teach anyone who is excited to learn how to play tennis!

Kristen Turi
Tennis Playing Experience:
I began playing tennis at the age of ten, and have absolutely loved the sport ever since! I have played singles and doubles competitively through both school and USTA tournaments, but enjoy playing recreationally just as much. In high school, I played four years of varsity tennis and captained the team my junior and senior year. I play year-round, and have dedicated many summers to both playing and teaching tennis.

Tennis Instructing Experience:
I have spent the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011 working as a tennis instructor at Cross Court Tennis Club in Wappingers Falls, New York, teaching both children and adults. I have also spent the past three summers as a tennis instructor, for both group and private lessons, for a town program run in Fishkill, New York, teaching children under the age of 16. I believe it is important to have fun while specializing each lesson to a student’s individual needs and wishes. I enjoy helping people improve their skills and develop a love and passion for the game!

Age Preference (Adult, Youth, Infant):
Through my experience, I have worked primarily with children at the novice, intermediate, and advanced levels, but I do have experience teaching adults at the novice and intermediate levels. However, if you are enthusiastic and ready to learn the game, I am ready and excited to teach people of all ages!

Other experience/qualifications:
During the summers of 2010 and 2011, I directed the tennis program for the town of Fishkill, New York. Helping to make this program grow and seeing the positive impact that tennis can have on a person’s life has greatly increased my love and respect for the game, as well as encouraged me to continue teaching and helping others learn the game. As a freshman at Boston College, I am currently a part of the Emerging Leader Program. I am thrilled to be living in Chestnut Hill and cannot wait to become a part of the Boston community. Even more, I am excited for a great year of teaching tennis at the BC RecPlex!!

Miguel Vizarreta
My friend got me into tennis my sophomore year in high school. I instantly fell in love with the sport and I played three years on the varsity high school team. I played doubles my first year and singles on my last two years on the team. I spent the 2011 summer working at a summer camp called North Shore Day Camp in Long Island, NY. At this camp, I worked with groups of kids from fifth to ninth grade. Also, I gave private lessons to two first graders once at week. I’m most experienced working with the youth age group, but I would love to teach anyone that has a great interest for tennis.

Ian Worgaftik
I have enjoyed playing tennis consistently through middle school and high school, while dedicating my time recently to competitive doubles play in the summer.  I also have had much fun being a part of the Boston College Intramural tennis program. I have taught tennis to beginners (K-8) at Avon Old Farms Summer Camp from 2006-2009, as well as at the Avon Country Club in Avon, CT in the summers of 2007 and 2008. The majority of my teaching experience has been spent with children ages 5-12, but I do have a familiarity in teaching adults with both beginner and intermediate skill levels.

Tennis Playing Experience:
Played through middleschool and highschool (Doubles); Intramurals at BC.

Tennis Instructing Experience:
Taught beginners (K-8) at Athletic Camp in CT from 2006-2009; Taught beginners and intermediate players for BC Campus Recreation in Summer of 2010.
