2018 Summer Institute Is BC Law’s Most Diverse

Law School welcomes 23 international participants to its three-week program.

The Boston College Law School Summer Institute: Foundations of US Law & Practice, a three-week intensive in US law, language, and culture for international participants, began its 2018 session July 16 with an introduction to the US legal system by Faculty Director Joan Blum.

This year’s class of 23, shown here with faculty and staff, is the most geographically diverse in the program’s nine-year history. Participants come from China (10), Chile (5), Spain and Uzbekistan (2 each), and Mexico, South Korea, Poland, and Syria (1 each).

BC Law faculty teach skills in common law analysis and oral and written communication and provide instruction in contracts, tax law, secured transactions and bankruptcy, civil liberty, creating a constitution, and more. There is also a full-day trial practice workshop, and visits to courts, law offices, and cultural events.
