The Eagles stage a third-period come-from-behind win to repeat as Beanpot winners

BOSTON – Kristyn Capizzano and Erin Connolly tallied third period goals to lead the sixth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team to its seventh Beanpot title Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over host Northeastern.

Scoreless through two periods, Northeastern took a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the third, but Capizzano equalized at 8:37 with a rising one-timer over Northeastern goaltender Brittany Bulgalski. Four and a half minutes later, BC capitalized on its second power-play opportunity of the night when Connolly banged in Andie Anastos' pass into the low slot to give the Eagles the lead.

BC goaltender Katie Burt made 19 saves in the win, while Bulgalski made 22 saves in the loss.

Connolly was voted as the Beanpot MVP, while Bulgalski was recognized with the Bertagna Award as the tournament's top goaltender.

BC has now won three of the last four Beanpot titles. This was the Eagles' second trophy win in the last five days after claiming the 2016-17 Hockey East regular-season crown on Friday night.

39th Annual Beanpot | Championship Game
No. 6 Boston College 2, Northeastern 1
Tuesday, February 7, 2017
Matthews Arena | Boston, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 3rd, 1:07 | 0-1, NU GOAL – Kasidy Anderson picked up Andrea Renner's clearance pass at the red line behind the Eagles' defense and skated in on a one-on-one with Katie Burt, beating the goaltender with a shot high to break the deadlock.
  • 3rd, 8:37 | 1-1, BC GOAL – Caitrin Lonergan curled back in the neutral zone and played the puck away to Delaney Belinskas at center ice coming over for a line change. Belinskas pushed it ahead to Kristyn Capizzano – who had just come onto the ice – at the blue line and the senior skated into the zone and ripped off a rising shot from the top of the circle that beat Brittany Bulgalski over her stick-side shoulder to even the game.
  • 3rd, 12:56 | 2-1, BC GOAL (PPG) – With the Eagles looking for the go-ahead goal and awarded just their second power play of the game, the team's first unit converted for the game-winning goal. BC worked the puck along the blue line and Kenzie Kent got it at the halfboards on the far side. She played the puck behind the net to Andie Anastos and the senior captain then sent a quick pass out to Erin Connolly in the slot. Connolly battled in traffic to get her stick on it and pushed the puck past Bulgalski for the eventual game-winning goal.
