BC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore right-handed starter Jacob Stevens turned in a 6.2-inning start to pick up his fourth win of the season. He allowed eight hits, three runs, just one walk and struck out four.
  • Freshman Jacob Yish was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He has a hit in the last four games and seven in the last 10 played.
  • Senior Michael Strem also drove in two runs for the Eagles.
  • Sophomore Jake Alu led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 day. Two of his three hits were doubles, he scored and drove in a run. Alu has at least one hit in the last five games and has notched 11 multiple-game hits this season.
  • Freshman Brian Dempsey was also 3-for-4 with a run scored.

KEY PLAYS
  • The Wolfpack got within one in the top of the sixth, scoring two to make it a 4-3 game, but the Eagles answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a five-run lead.
  • Sophomore RHP John Witkowski and junior RHP Donovan Casey combined to pitch 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to close out the game for the Eagles. Both allowed one hit and Casey walked one and struck out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles scored four in the first to take an early lead and chase starter Chase Alder from the game. Casey led off the game with a base hit up the middle and junior Jake Palomaki drew a walk to put two on. Casey tagged up on a fly out and with runners on the corners, junior Mitch Bigras singled through the right side to score the BC run. Alu doubled to right field to plate another run. Yish followed with the third hit in a row to score two more. RHP Johnny Piedemonte came in and the inning ended on an attempted bunt single.
  • The Wolfpack scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it a one-run game. In the fifth, Evan Mendoza led off with a double, tagged up to third and scored on an RBI groundout by Brett Kinneman.
  • The Pack made it a 4-3 game in the sixth as Brad Debo put one just fair down the third-base line with two on and two out. Stevens ended the inning with a grounder to first.
  • BC broke open the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits and two errors. Senior Johnny Adams and Dempsey started with back-to-back base hits to put runners on the corners and the Pack went to the bullpen for RHP Joe O'Donnell. Casey chopped one back to the mound, but O'Donnell's throw home was wide, allowing Dempsey to score. Palomaki laid down a sac bunt but again, O'Donnell's throw was errant and BC had the bases loaded. Strem plated two with a single through the left side. Sophomore Gian Martellini followed with a base hit to left to score another. After a line out, Alu tallied an infield to load the bases. Yish knocked one for a base hit, but the ball hit Alu for the second out and kept a run off the board. A strikeout ended the inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Every BC starter had at least one hit in the game and five had two or more.
  • The four runs scored in the first tied a season high for runs scored in the first inning.
  • The Eagles are 8-2 when tallying at least 10 hits in the game. They have won three of 16 when allowing double-digit knocks.
  • The Eagles did not record an error for the 13th time this season.
  • The Eagles are now 26-10-1 all-time at Fenway Park.

SIXTH ANNUAL ALS GAME
  • The Eagles have won four times when playing in the Annual ALS Awareness Game, including the last three years (2017, 16, 15, 12).
  • The Frates family – Pete, wife Julie and daughter Lucy, brother Andrew and parents John and Nancy, were on the field for the pre-game ceremonies.
  • Chris Combs, a former NC State baseball player (1994-97) diagnosed with ALS in May 2016, threw out the first pitch.
  • Before the start of the game, L Star Ventures presented a $5,000 check to both the Frates family and Chris Combs as a donation for their foundations.
  • The 3,603 fans set a new ALS Awareness Game attendance record. All ticket proceeds – as well as donations from the 50/50 raffle – will benefit the Pete Frates #3 Fund, set up to aid in medical care costs.
  • This was the first year the annual event was held at Fenway Park. It was also the first time an Atlantic Coast Conference game was played on the hallowed grounds.
