Academic Technology Innovation Grant

The Academic Technology Advisory Board (ATAB) will, on behalf of the Office of the Provost, entertain proposals for Academic Technology Innovation Grants (ATIG). The ATIG grants aim to encourage the innovative use of technology in teaching and research.

The ATAB will issue a call for proposals at the beginning of the Spring semester.  Please see application link to the right.   Full-time faculty, departments and schools are eligible to apply for the grants, and all proposals must be approved and forwarded to ATAB by the respective department chairs and deans.

The ATAB is especially interested in funding projects that will bring new instructional and research technologies to Boston College or will bring innovative approaches to teaching and research through technology. ATAB particularly welcomes projects that are self-sustaining or which will impact a large number of Boston College faculty and/or students. ATAB also  encourages faculty to combine ATIG grants with other grant opportunities on campus, including Research Expense Grants and the Teaching and Mentoring Grants. A total of $300k is available annually for all Academic Technology Innovation Grants; there is neither a minimum ATIG amount nor a set number of annual grants awarded.

Additional information and criteria regarding the ATIG:

  • academic departments and/or schools should forward projects that can be self-sustaining after the grant has expired
  • projects will be funded one time only, but funds can be spread out over 1-2 years
  • all applicants and approvers should take into account the fact that ATIG is providing start-up funding.  Any successful project which continues beyond the grant period will require localized funding support
  • grant funds may be used in support of hardware, software and consulting services (including programming and web design)
  • grant funds may not be used for faculty release time or for other BC personnel expenses including graduate assistantships
  • grant recipients must agree to provide ongoing progress reports
