It has been another exciting and productive year at the Heights! I hope you enjoy a look at some of the highlights in the German Studies Department:
- In summer 2015, Daniel Bowles was hired as a tenure-track assistant professor. Publishers Weekly selected his translation of Christian Kracht's novel Imperium (Macmillan, 2015) as one of the top 10 books of 2015.
- Ruth Sondermann coauthored a German-language audio program for the acclaimed Pimsleur series of instructional tapes.
- The third edition of Michael Resler's Daniel von dem blühenden Tal (de Gruyter, 2015) was published in June 2015.
- Cameron Givens '15 and Tashrika Sharma '15 were both awarded Fulbright Fellowships to study in Germany, and Maria Nero '15 won a CBYX scholarship. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
In other news, after 18 years, Agnes Farkas left the department to devote more time to other projects. Martha Kraft came on board in December as our new administrative assistant—and got right to work organizing a lecture by Consul General Horlemann on the refugee crisis in Germany. In the fall, Ursula Mangoubi assumed responsibility for the summer internships program.
I wish you all the best for this year and encourage you to share your adventures and achievements with us. Please join the German Studies Alums Facebook group and follow @BCGermanStudies on Twitter for all the latest news from the Department. By all means let us know if you're on campus—we'd be happy to see you!
Finally, please consider supporting German Studies with a donation.
