Alumni News

Eagles Back on Campus:

In September, Janie Ho '02 came back to campus to give a lecture called "How to Make it in the Big Apple and the Media." Ho is a lifestyle contributor to amNewYork, a Tribune-owned newspaper. She's reported for BusinessWeek online, and worked for ABC's World News Tonight, 20/20, and CBS.

In November, Dave Wedge '93, a Boston Herald reporter and columnist, will be coming to campus to give a lecture entitled: "Media Madness: Life in a Tabloid World." Wedge has been with the Boston Herald for nine years, covering such national stories as the Neil Entwistle murder case, the Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island, and 9/11. He's been a member of the Herald's political team since 2003 and writes the Sunday "Pols & Politics" column.

Wedge also does a weekly political segment on Monday Night Talk on 95.9 FM WATD and is a frequent radio and TV commentator who has appeared on E! True Hollywood Story, CNN, Good Morning America, MSNBC's The Abrams Report, Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor and WEEI 850-AM. His work has also appeared in Boston Magazine, Revolver, The Weekly Dig, the New York Post and London's Sunday News of the World, among other publications.

Alumni Share Their Experience to Help Budding Journalists

Adam Shub '01 and Tim Baier '01 have recently started a website devoted to helping students and budding journalists find a job in television news. TVLifer is the industry's fastest growing social network for television professionals and it allows them to search and apply for jobs online without the need for VHS tapes or DVDs. Shub, who majored in communication at BC, spent seven years as a broadcast reporter and anchor at various television stations along the East Coast and is now earning a law degree at the University of Maine. Baier, a political science major at BC, followed a similar path after receiving his master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern and now serves as the weekend sports anchor for News 14 Carolina in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both saw a gap in the technology being used for the hiring process in broacasting and developed a way to take it all online. You can visit their new venture at www.tvlifer.com. If you have any questions you would like to ask them, you can e–mail them at adam@tvlifer.com or tim@tvlifer.com.
