In a given month, Terrence S. Gray '92 can be found in almost any corner of the world, be it Singapore, Brazil, or sub-Saharan Africa. Portfolio manager for a global asset management company, Gray travels the world researching companies in emerging markets—a vocation that allows him to satisfy two passions engendered at Boston College: foreign cultures and investing.
"I had a French professor at BC who said, 'Do something you love and the rest will fall into place," says Gray. "This lesson has guided me throughout my career."
A double major in finance and French, Gray's scholastic days on the Heights were spent among "incredible professors and great friends" in a liberal arts environment that taught him to think both creatively and critically. Gray recalls a defining academic moment in which he had to present a paper on the writer Diderot to a French literature class consisting mostly of graduate students. "I was nervous and it was certainly a challenge, but it went well," says Gray, who credits Associate Professor of French Ourida Mostefai for providing the rich intellectual environment for him to succeed.
Later, an alumni contact through the BC Career Network helped Gray find his first job after college with Deutsche Asset Management, where he has worked for since.
Now Gray is giving back to Boston College through annual gifts to the Boston College Fund. He also volunteered on his 15th Reunion Gift Committee to encourage other classmates to support BC philanthropically. "BC was a great experience for me academically and socially, and it's important for me to give back," says Gray. "I'm excited about the future of the University, and it's great to see other people excited about it too."
