As the Foleys—Carolyn '56 and Dan '55—put it: "the story of our family is the story of BC."
The West Roxbury, Massachusetts, residents have witnessed BC's remarkable transformation in the 50 years plus since they graduated. They have watched the University evolve from a school of local commuter students to one of international prominence.
In the intervening years, three of the Foleys' five children graduated from BC, along with numerous members of their extended family. And through it all, Boston College has remained their top philanthropic priority.
"We thoroughly enjoyed our time at BC, and we want it to stay alive and viable so that other people can have the same experiences we and our children had," said Carolyn.
"BC has remained true to its mission," added Dan. "They reach out to the community and to far-flung places across the world. We give to the BC Fund because the University cannot do this type of work without sufficient money."
The Foleys take the Jesuit ideal of giving back and serving others one step further. Both are active volunteers in many areas, including the BC Fund.
"We are very proud to be involved with an institution like this and, to show our support, we have always tried to contribute as far as our means have allowed," he added.
The Foleys' story has begun yet another chapter. Their first grandchild, Maureen, is a new graduate, a member of the class of 2008. Maureen, the daughter of BC alumni Patricia Foley Cummins, '81, G '83 and Brian J. Cummins,'82, is also the granddaughter of Daniel Cummins, class of '58.
"I guess we will start tailgating again," joked Carolyn.
