day of serviceAs graduates of a Jesuit, Catholic University we share a special commitment not to live for ourselves alone. We recognize that we are called to share our time, talent, and resources with the world around us.

It is a lifetime commitment – a commitment worthy of St. Ignatius’ call to go “transform the world.” The need is all around us. Here are just a few opportunities for service to consider:

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Heading Home, Boston, MA
Helps homeless families transition into permanent homes. Needs volunteers to help move furnishings into houses. Check out their website at: www.headinghomeinc.org.

Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, Jamaica Plain, MA
Committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly.  Needs volunteers to visit elderly and help with events.  For more information, go to their website  http://boston.littlebrothers.org

Ignatian Volunteer Corps, New England
This national organization recently opened a New England office.  It needs volunteers age 50 and older to make a one year committment to volunteer a couple of days a week at non-profit groups in Boston, Worcester and Rhode Island.  For more information, go to www.ivcusa.org/region_pages/newengland.html

St. Bernard Project, Louisiana  
If you want to volunteer in New Orleans to help with the ongoing rebuilding, then this group—headed by BC grad, Liz McCartney '94—is the place to go.  Because of the outstanding work done by the St. Bernard Project, Liz won CNN's "Hero of the Year" award.
