Advising

AdvisingFaculty advisement at Boston College is more than course selection and planning. The effort to form students so that they can help transform society is a key aspect of Jesuit education.

All first-year students are assigned faculty advisors. Some advisors are selected from students' major departments. If a student enrolls in one of several special programs--such as an honors seminar or the Cornerstone Advisement Seminar--that teacher becomes the student's first-year advisor. After the first year, those students typically choose advisors from their major departments.

A network of advisement centers--faculty, deans, the University Counseling Office, the Pre-medical/Pre-dental program, the Office of AHANA Student Programs, and the Career Center--is also available to offer guidance related to life, work, and academic choices. The Council on Student Formation, composed of faculty, administrators, and students, is developing initiatives to better integrate the intellectual, personal, and ethical lives of undergraduate students.
