Once admitted, students receive a packet of information designed to help them ease their transition to Boston College. The Welcome Packet will include information about many aspects of Boston College life, from orientation sessions to tuition and financing alternatives. This packet also includes a number of forms that students are asked to fill out and return.
Included with the Welcome Packet will be information specific to each accepted transfer student's academic history. Students will be provided with a Transfer Credit Evaluation and a Degree and Graduation Requirement Evaluation (D.E.G.R.E.) Audit. An Explanation Letter will describe how and why a student's courses transferred. There will also be information regarding housing, orientation, costs, financing alternatives, and information specifically for international students.
Required Fees
Accepted students are to make careful note of deposit amounts and deadlines. Accepted students are required to submit a nonrefundable Enrollment Confirmation Fee. Those students who have been granted University on-campus housing will additionally be required to submit a Room Guarantee Fee. All appropriate instructions and forms are included in the packet. Students are strongly encouraged to be aware of deadlines and deposit schedules.
Orientation
Transfer Orientation, run by the Office of First Year Experience, is a three-day, two-night program designed to address the unique circumstances, both social and academic, of new students who have already had some experience with college life. Orientation is a MANDATORY program that is usually held in the middle of July for transfer students.
Students will be assigned to an academic advisor who will help them determine the courses they will need to fulfill University degree requirements. Students will also register for courses for the coming semester.
In addition, students will have the chance to gather with other students, faculty, and administrators to learn about the many activities and resources available at the University. They will meet with present Boston College students who have transferred from other institutions and with Orientation Leaders, who are sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Transfers students who will be living off-campus will have the opportunity get assistance in their search for housing.
Deferring your Admission
Accepted students who wish to begin studies at a later date may defer enrollment at Boston College for as little as one semester to as long as two years. Deferment should be requested in writing to the Office of Undergraduate Admission by the applicant's deposit deadline. The Committee of Transfer Admission will review each case and notify the student of its decision. Housing previously offered will be guaranteed; however, the student must reapply for financial aid during the application cycle immediately preceding the date of desired entry. By deferring admission, students must understand that they may not take college level courses at any college or university as this would alter the academic record upon which they were accepted.
