Student Studying

January Orientation

Transfer and freshman students begin their Boston College experience with orientation. January Orientation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018. During this program, faculty and administrators will be on-hand to introduce students to the academic, residential, and extracurricular life at BC. Students will have the opportunity to transition to university life and select their courses for the Spring 2018 semester. For more information, please visit the Office of First Year Experience. (Transfer and first-year students enrolling for the spring are automatically registered for orientation.)

Academic Advising

At January Orientation, you will meet with an assigned faculty advisor to discuss your academic interests, degree requirements, and how to register for classes. Learn more about academic advising at Boston College.

Credit Evaluation (Transfer Students Only)

At this time you should have received two emails from the Office of Undergraduate Admission regarding your acceptance as a transfer student to Boston College. The first email contans your official acceptance letter and the second email is your degree audit and explanation letter detailing how the courses you took at other colleges and/or universities apply to your degree program at Boston College.

Understanding Your DEGREE Audit and Explanation Letter

The DEGREE audit indicates how the courses that you completed prior to enrollment at Boston College will apply toward the degree requirements for the program of study you have selected.  Review the audit key for additional details about understanding your audit. (PDF viewer required)

The Explanation Letter provides important details about your graduation term and the requirements specific to your intended major (if declared).  The Office of Transfer Admission may also request additional documentation to complete our evaluation of your previous coursework.

The Office of Transfer Admission reviews previous coursework and can award credit to fulfill core requirements and elective slots.  If you have general questions about how your course work has transferred, please contact the Transfer Admission Office directly at 1-800-360-2522 and we would be happy to assist you.

Our office is not able to assign credit toward a major.  Should you have any questions regarding how your coursework might apply toward your intended major, we suggest you contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the department of interest.  Click here to view the department contact information. (PDF reader required)

Once you have decided to enroll at Boston College, the University will provide further details regarding the formal process of assigning prior coursework to a specific major requirement.
