Update for Early Action Candidates Affected by Recent Natural Disasters

September, 2017

Please know that the thoughts and prayers of the Boston College community are with all residents of areas affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, and wildfires. We recognize that home damage, power outages, and flooding still affect many families. We hope that your property has been spared, but most importantly, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe.

We realize that high school seniors who are without power or who have missed school are concerned about meeting Early Action and Early Decision deadlines. If you are a Boston College Early Action candidate who has been affected by these unforeseen circumstances, we offer the following guidelines for how to proceed:

  1. Your family and your home environment should be your primary concern at this time. The college admission process, while important, is secondary to making sure you are safely returned to your home with full power.
  2. Students unable to meet Boston College’s November 1 Early Action deadline should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 800-360-2522 or via email at bcapplicant@bc.edu. We will be happy to work with you on an individual basis to complete your application. If paying the application fee would be burdensome for your family in light of current circumstances, please contact us, and we will grant you a waiver with no need for explanation.
  3. If you are unable to meet our Early Action deadline due to the impact of recent natural disasters, please do not be concerned. About 30% of our applicants use Early Action, so we strive to enroll 30% of our entering class through Early Action. Boston College does not use demonstration of interest in making admission decisions, so Early Action candidates have no advantage over Regular Decision candidates in our selection process. Your Regular Decision application, submitted by the January 1 deadline, will receive full and fair consideration from our staff.
  4. If it is easier for you, your teachers, or your counselors to submit paper versions of your application, please send them to: Boston College, Undergraduate Admission Processing Center, P.O. Box 67485, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467 or via email to bcapplicant@bc.edu.

We commend those who have assisted with rescue and cleanup efforts in recent weeks. Yet, we realize that many people will be dealing with the effects of these events for weeks and even months to come. For those who have sustained loss and for those who have begun the process of rebuilding, you remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

John L. Mahoney
